Original window sticker
Verified with General MotorsThe window sticker (Monroney label) lists the factory options, packages, colors and MSRP. GM's window-sticker service. We verified it on 2026-10-17 with a 2022 Silverado 1500 (a 158 KB PDF that also carries the three-character RPO option codes). One 2024 Tahoe VIN returned an empty response on the first try and a PDF on a retry, so responses can be intermittent and not every VIN is on file.

Get the build sheet
GM serves the original window sticker by VIN for Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac where it has one on file. The PDF also lists the three-character RPO option codes. The VIN itself never encodes options, packages or colors.
Look for the RPO (Service Parts Identification) label
Many GM vehicles, especially older ones, carry a label listing three-character RPO option codes, usually inside the glovebox, the trunk or the center console. Many recent GM vehicles no longer have it.
Ask a GM dealer's service desk
Any franchised GM dealer can look up the factory build record from the VIN in the manufacturer's system. Many will print or email it on request, sometimes for free and sometimes for a small fee. Call the service desk rather than sales.
Check the original paperwork
The original window sticker (Monroney label), purchase contract or dealer invoice lists factory options and packages. Sellers often keep it in the glovebox or manual wallet.
Buying? Pair it with a history report
A build sheet tells you how the car left the factory. Title brands, accidents and odometer records are a separate check: a vehicle history report (NMVTIS-backed) covers those.
Sources & method
Decode: NHTSA vPIC. Recalls, complaints and NCAP ratings: api.nhtsa.gov. Each is cached for up to 24 hours. Window sticker: General Motors's own service (linked, not re-hosted). We never invent data: if a source doesn't have it, the report says so. Methodology · Affiliate disclosure
