Car Codebook's data comes from public sources: NHTSA's vPIC decoder, Recalls and Complaints APIs, and the manufacturers' own window-sticker services. Some records are not public, such as title brands, odometer history, accident records and VIN-level build data. For those we link to paid services, and some of those links earn us a commission. See the affiliate disclosure.

How partners are chosen
We only link to a paid service when the free route can't answer the question. History-report partners must use official NMVTIS title data for US vehicles. Build-sheet and window-sticker partners must work from VIN-level data, not generic trim lists. A commission never moves a free source below a paid one.
